  1. Feds sending more than $5M to support tidal energy in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The federal Department of Energy is giving a Maine company more than $5 million to advance the development of a tidal energy project. Ocean Renewable Power Company of Portland is expected to use the money to complete the commercial design of its TidGen Power System. The design is scheduled to be tested, operated and monitored in Washington County in eastern Maine. Maine Rep. Chellie Pingree says the grant puts the power company closer to finishing the design of an innovative tidal power technology. She says the project will create jobs and serve as a source of clean energy. Power company president Chris Sauer says the project will take advantage of ocean currents to generate power.
