  1. Investment firm buys 60 MW UK solar park

Investment management company Rockfire Capital has acquired Swindon Solar Park, one of the UK’s largest operational solar PV projects . It has bought the 60 MW project from WELink Energy for an undisclosed sum. Swindon Solar Park is built on land owned by the Science Museum Group near Swindon in England and the 172-acre site comprises 231,660 solar panels. The project was built on disused land and is intended to provide additional environmental benefits including enhancements to habitat and biodiversity for wildlife at the site. Among the Rockfire investors in the solar park are three borough councils, making them among the first local authorities in the UK to invest in cleantech bonds. Rockfire chief executive Liam Kavanagh said the company has “long been advocates of renewable energy and we offer a range of ways for both institutions and individuals to invest in the sector. “Renewable energy assets not only offer investors attractive and reliable yields, but are also a way for them to invest in something which positively impacts the environment.”
