  1. NRG Energy Breaks Ground on Five Community Solar Projects

    By Editors of Power Engineering NRG Energy Inc. announced today that it has officially broken ground on the first five of its community solar projects in Minnesota. Additionally, the company has reached agreements to subscribe several business customers to 25-year solar subscription agreements. These companies include U.S. Bank , Land O’Lakes , Macy’s and Ecolab , as well as 1,000 Minnesota residents. “We seek out partnerships that positively impact the environment and participating in this unique community solar garden initiative is a great example of that,” said Reba Dominski, senior vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility at U.S. Bank. “We are excited to see the positive impact the gardens will have on our communities.” The five solar farms include the 6.7 MW Forest Lake Project in Washington County, the 6.1 MW Farmington Project in Dakota County, the 3.5 MW Pine Island Project in Goodhue County, the 6.7 MW Highway 14 Project in Olmstead County and the 6.1 MW Dodge Project in Dodge County. All of the projects are slated for completion by early 2017. In exchange for signing solar subscription agreements, participating residents and businesses will receive a credit on their utility bill from Xcel Energy Inc. Earlier this summer, NRG completed the nation’s largest rooftop solar installation on top of Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
