  1. Atkins unit gas power services deal in Oman

Engineering consultancy Atkins has announced that one of its units has been awarded a key contract by state-owned Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP). Atkins Power and Renewables will provide technical advisory services for the development of the Power 2021 Procurement Cycle in the sultanate. The contract entails services relating to the addition of at least 800 MW of combined cycle gas turbine generation (CCGT). The scope of work includes a site selection strategy to determine the project’s optimum location, and drafting the project definition report and competition paper. The company will also support the evaluation of developer prequalification submittals, and will assist with agreeing on the final short list of developers through to bid evaluation and award of contract to the successful bidder. The current demand for power is in the region is 6,000MW, so the addition of 800 MW of gas power capacity is a significant one. The development will provide additional security of supply to Oman and improve margin particularly during summer months when demand is greatest.
