  1. Siemens to Supply Compact Steam Turbines to Russia and Turkey

Siemens has received orders from companies in Russia and Turkey for two model SST-111 compact steam turbines. The Russian aluminum producer Rusal ordered one turbine for its production facility in Volgograd, which is being constructed by French company Fives Solios SA. The waste heat from the plant will be utilized by the SST-111 turbine to generate around 8 MW of electricity to power production facilities.  The plant uses anodes and cathodes to apply electricity to bauxite, liquefying it for the production of aluminum. Also included in the order is a generator, condenser, exhaust steam line, and reducing station. The turbine will be delivered to the plant in April 2017. Turkey’s Mimsan boiler manufacturer will take delivery of the second turbine to be used in a biomass plant owned by Oltan Köleoglu Energy in Mecitözü. Oltan Köleoglu is the leading provider of renewable energy in the Black Sea region, burning primarily hazelnut shells to generate electricity. These shells are plentiful because the Turkish Black Sea region produces three quarters of the world's hazelnut supply. The order also includes site erection and on-site commissioning. The SST-111 turbine is scheduled to begin operation in summer 2017. "We received these new orders on the basis of our long-term customer relationships and our good reference plants,” said Volker Neumann, location manager at Siemens in Frankenthal. "Thanks to these orders, we were able to sell two of our compact SST-111 turbines within just a few weeks of one another." Both turbines will be manufactured at Siemens’ Frankenthal site in Germany.
