Mark E. Willis received a BS (1977) in applied math and physics from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and a PhD (1983) in geophysics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He worked at Mobil Research and Development Corporation in Dallas TX from 1983-1995. He created software systems for borehole acoustic logging, prestack depth migration and velocity model building. He advanced to seismic processing supervisor and then seismic acquisition manager. From 1995-1998 he worked at Mobil North Sea Ltd in Scotland, as the senior seismic processing representative. He then moved to the Mobil Exploration and Technology Center from 1998-2000 in Dallas. He joined the Earth Resources Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2002 as a research scientist where he is working on natural and hydraulic fracture characterization, seismic interferometry and microseismic reservoir monitoring. He is also the program manager for acoustics at Cambridge GeoScience Sonics, providing acoustic log processing software, consulting and services.
