Bob Williams is director of research for PennWell Publishing's Oil & Gas Journal Research Center. Previously, Williams worked on the Oil & Gas Journal staff for more than 24 years, first as a reporter covering stories ranging from Colombia's oil boom in the early 1980s to the Exxon Valdez spill and aftermath to Middle East oil crises. In the late 1990s, he served as OGJ Managing News Editor, leading award-winning coverage of ongoing issues such as "peak" oil and environmental challenges. He took over the magazine's day-to-day operations as Executive Editor in Houston in the early 2000s. Williams returned to his hometown of Tulsa in 2004 to work as communications editor under contract to the US Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory before returning to PennWell in early 2008. He is the author of the 1991 PennWell bestselling book U.S. Petroleum Strategies in the Decade of the Environment and has authored and managed many ancillary publications and editorial products for PennWell over the years.
