Paul Willhite
Technical Program Chair
16th Improved Oil Recovery Symposium

Paul Willhite is the Ross H. Forney Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas College of Petroleum Engineering, codirector of the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project, and codirector of KU's Energy Research Center. He was honored with the IOR Pioneer Award at the 14th Improved Oil Recovery Symposium in 2004. Willhite also is a recipient of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) John Franklin Carll Award and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. In addition to his membership in SPE, he is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Society of Engineering Education. Willhite holds a BS in chemical engineering from Iowa State University and a PhD in chemical engineering from Northwestern University. Willhite's research projects focus on enhanced oil recovery processes, including polymer flooding, carbon dioxide miscible flooding, and thermal recovery; improved oil recovery processes ranging from waterflooding to application of gelled polymers to control water movement in petroleum reservoirs; sequestration of carbon dioxide in oil and gas reservoirs; management of petroleum reservoirs and simulation of oil production using reservoir simulators; and transport processes in porous media.
