PennEnergy Content Contributor FAQ

Where should I submit content for publication consideration?

Are there required word-counts for contributed articles?

  • Single-installment articles should be between 500 and  3,000 words in length. Articles that exceed 3,000 words may be broken into smaller parts at our discretion--we will notify you before breaking your article into smaller articles. If articles significantly exceed 3,000 words, please speak to us about the possibility of a microblog. Contact us at content@pennenergy.com.

What do you require in addition to the proposed article?

  • Once you have been notified that your article will be appearing on PennEnergy.com, we will ask that you also provide a picture of yourself (headshot) and brief biographical information. We also ask that all images (including any charts or graphs) be provided as separate files. You will also be required to sign a Copyright Release Form.

In what format(s) should documents and images be?

  • Documents should be saved as .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .txt files. Images (including any charts or graphs) should be saved as .jpg files preferably, but we will also accept .gif and .eps files. Images should be saved at 72 dpi.

How will I know if my article will be used on PennEnergy.com?

  • We will notify you either way of the article's acceptance. If we do choose to publish your article, we will email on the day it is published to let you know.

Will you edit or modify my article in any way?

  • For the sake of the integrity of the content we present on our site, minor grammatical edits may be made to your submitted article. Should your article require significant grammatical edits, we may return the article with a request that it be edited.

What public feedback do you provide on your site with regard to contributed content?

  • Registered members of PennEnergy.com may recommend and/or provide comments on your article. Comments are moderated, and inappropriate comments may be deleted. (Note: comments that simply present an alternative view or an opinion contrary to that of the article's author will not be deleted simply because they differ in sentiment.)

In what other ways may I contribute content to PennEnergy.com aside from submitting individual articles.

  • PennEnergy.com also hosts blogs and microblogs. Blogs are industry-focused, topical, regularly posted narratives that are sometimes more subjective and opinion-based than many of the technical articles that appear on our site. Microblogs are similar to blogs in that they contain multi-installment, topical, relatively subjective narratives; however, microblogs are limited in the number of posts they contain. Bloggers are asked to contribute topical content on a regular basis (every one to two weeks); microbloggers generally submit a handful of topically related posts at one time with no obligation to post regularly. If you are interested in becoming a blogger or microblogger for PennEnergy.com, email us at content@pennenergy.com.

I'd like to advertise on one of your topic centers. How do I go about doing so?

  • If you'd be interested in sponsoring one of PennEnergy.com's topic centers, please contact Melissa Roberts at mroberts@pennwell.com.

The content I have to offer is an extensive, non-commercial research report/survey/statistical package. How may I go about getting this published on your site?

I have other questions about contributing content to PennEnergy.com that are not answered here. How may I get these questions answered?
