PennEnergy's Oil & Gas Journal Research Center is pleased to present the webcast "Frontiers of Geophysics Technology," scheduled for 12:00 pm CDT on August 5, 2008. Advances in geophysics technology, especially seismic, have been the driver for tremendous efficiency and productivity gains in exploratory success rates and improvements in hydrocarbon recovery rates. Persistently high oil and natural gas prices will ensure that demand for geophysical services remains stronger than ever. And recent advances in nonseismic technologies are prompting innovations in integrating seismic and nonseismic methods. This exclusive webcast will address the most critical technology issues in geophysics, including advances in seismic, gravity, electromagnetic, aeromagnetic, and magnetotelluric technologies. A special emphasis will be placed on challenging hydrocarbon environments, such as deepwater, subsalt, and nonconventional gas.
The webcast is thematically connected to the 2008 annual meeting of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, slated to be held in Las Vegas, Nev., on November 9-14. SEG is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the science of geophysics and the education of applied geophysicists. The society has more than 30,000 members in 129 countries. For information on the SEG 2008 annual meeting, please visit the website at: http://www.seg.org/SEGportalWEBproject/portals/SEG_Online.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pg_gen_content&Doc_Url=prod/SEG-News/News-Meetings/LV08_siraki.htm
Four current and past presidents of SEG are headlining the webcast:
Larry Lines, SEG 2008-2009 President-Elect and head of the Geology & Geophysics Department at the University of Calgary
Fred Aminzadeh, SEG 2007-2008 President and President of dGB USA
Leon Thomsen, SEG 2006-2007 President and Delta Geophysics Chief Consultant
Mike Bahorich, SEG 2002-2003 President and Apache Petroleum Corp. Executive Vice-President
Bob Williams, former Executive Editor of Oil & Gas Journal and currently Director of Research for the Oil & Gas Journal Research Center, will moderate the webcast.
This webcast will be a freewheeling, panel-format discussion followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
