Finalists for the Best Gas-fired Project are the Langage combined-cycle power plant in the United Kingdom, owned by Centrica Langage Ltd.; the Tohoku-Electric Power Co.-owned Sendai thermal power station replacement projects in Japan; and the Green Data Center at Syracuse University in New York.

In the Best Nuclear Project category, the finalists are the new-generation tungsten shield project at Arkansas Nuclear One and the gimbaled head project at Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Michigan, both owned by Entergy.

The three finalists for the renewable/sustainable category are the Canoe Creek hydroelectric project in British Columbia, Canada, owned by Barkley Project Group Ltd.; the biogas facility project in Vermont owned by PurposeEnergy, Inc.; and the Tekeze hydropower project in Ethiopia, owned by Ethiopian Electric Power Corp.

“The world’s appetite for energy continues to grow,” said Richard G. Power Engineering magazine is once again pleased to be able to recognize some of the exceptional power generation projects that were completed in the past year.”

The winners of the Projects of the Year Awards will be announced during a gala awards banquet on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Fla. as part of the POWER-GEN International Conference and Exhibition and the co-located NUCLEAR POWER International Conference and Exhibition.
