ABB hydropower project in Yukon nears completion

Las Vegas, December 13, 2011 — ABB will supply hydroelectric, mechanical and automation equipment for Yukon Energy Corp.'s Mayo B hydroelectric project in Canada's central Yukon.

Progress on the project is well ahead of schedule and should be producing power before the end of this year.

ABB is providing two new 5 MW Francis hydropower units installed in a new powerhouse. Both of these units are in the final stages of commissioning and are expected to be online within the next two weeks.

The Mayo B hydro project involves a more than $120 million expansion of dam facilities on the Mayo River that will increase output from 5 MW to about 15 MW with an environmentally friendly solution.

ABB is also providing, as previously announced, various turbines, generators, excitation systems, governor and hydraulic power units; along with other mechanical and electrical auxiliaries. ABB has also provided the required site services to ensure this project is operational by the end of 2011.

Yukon Energy is undertaking the project to support the Yukon's growing demand for electricity by enhancing existing hydro infrastructure to increase the power generated at the site from the current 5 MW to 15 MW.

Yukon Energy is planning for the future by ensuring there is a secure and continuous supply of clean, affordable energy. The Mayo B project will support this.

ABB has an extensive offering for renewable energies, and specifically for hydropower, in conjunction with strategic partners, with whom ABB is able to provide complete water to wire solutions.

This announcement was made at the Power-Gen International 2011 conference and exhibition in Las Vegas, NV. ABB is exhibiting in booth #4416 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
