The World Economic Forum said in June 2000 that Tunisia had the soundest economic growth prospects of all African countries it surveyed.
Agip's El Borma field in the Ghadames basin in southern Tunisia produced more than 20,000 b/d in 1999, providing about one fourth of the country's crude and condensate production.
BG planned a $450 million expansion of Miskar gas field 120 km offshore in the Gulf of Gabes. Miskar was producing 165 MMcfd of sour gas, about 65% of the country's total gas production, to the Hannibal treatment plant near Sfax. BG also planned to develop Hasdrubal gas and condensate field.
Coparex Netherlands BV planned to place Isis oil field on production with an FPSO.
Nuevo Energy Co., Houston, took interests in two blocks and increased its stake in a third. It was to operate the 171,000-acre Alyane Permit in the Gulf of Gabes in the nummulite limestone trend.
In Ghadames, Nuevo hiked its interest in the Anadarko Petroleum Corp.-operated, 1.1-million-acre Anaguid Permit. A well was to be drilled in 2001. Nuevo also hiked its interest in the 900,000-acre Fejaj Permit to 37.5%. ..
