A fire broke out at Frontier Oil Corporation's (NYSE:FTO) Cheyenne, Wyoming, oil refinery on the morning of July 28.
At 5:40 a.m. MDT, the crude unit at the Cheyenne Refinery broke out in flames. Refinery personnel and local firefighters worked to effectively extinguish the fire in an hour.
No injuries were sustained during the accident.
Frontier Oil Corporation is investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of damage it caused. Initial estimates indicate that the crude unit will be out for at least two weeks.
According to a report from the Wyoming Tribune Eagle newspaper, problems with the oil-water separator caused a fire in 2007, and issues with the coking unit caused a fire in 2004.
An independent oil refiner, Frontier Oil Corporation has refineries in Wyoming and Kansas.
The Cheyenne Refinery processes 52,000 barrels of oil a day, marketing its refined products along the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. The oil refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt.
In June of this year, Frontier agreed to pay a $900,000 fine to settle EPA hazardous waste charges at its Cheyenne refinery.
