Lundin to drill Avaldsnes prospect in the Norwegian North Sea

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway granted Lundin consent to carry out exploration drilling in production license 501 in the North Sea with the Transocean Winner semisubmersible drilling rig. 

The consent relates to the drilling of well 16/2-6 in production license 501 in the North Sea. The prospect to be explored has been named Avaldsnes

The well is located northwest of the Sleipner field and south of Balder and Grane. The distance to land (Stavanger) is approx. 200 kilometers, and water depth at the site is 115 meters.

Drilling is planned to start at the end of June. The drilling is expected to last 38 days. If potential production testing is included, the drilling operation is expected to last approx. 53 days. 

Lundin is the operator of production license 501, with an ownership interest of 40 percent. The other licensees are Statoil (40 percent) and Mærsk (20 percent).
