Summary

Daily accurate wholesale rack averages on multiple grades of gasoline and distillate at 250 locations. EMI's rack market averages represent the wholesale price for over 95% of the fuel consumed in the United States. Of the approximately 175 billion gallons of motor fuel consumed, EMI's data covered 171.4 billion gallons or about 98%. EMI tracks the traditional three grades of gasoline (regular, midgrade, and premium) and two types of diesel fuel (high and low sulfur). In addition, it is important to understand the refined product slate in the United States is now a vast array of seasonal and regional blends. EMI tracks as many as 175 unique types of fuel in its database. Among these are biofuels including pure ethanol and ethanol blends, and pure biodiesel and biodiesel blends.
