EPA extends RFS-2 comment deadline to Sept. 25

The US Environmental Protection Agency extended the public comment period on proposed changes in its renewable fuel standard program, commonly called RFS-2, by 60 days.

The deadline for submitting comments was moved from July 27 to Sept. 25, EPA said on July 2.

It said that the proposed rule would dramatically increase the volume requirements for renewable fuels, establish four categories of renewable fuels, and require some renewable fuels to achieve greenhouse gas emission reductions compared to the gasoline and diesel fuels they displace.

The revisions were mandated by the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, EPA said.
