Con Ed continues restoration efforts in NYC following violent storm

By Dorothy Davis

Con Edison crews continue extensive round the clock restoration efforts following a violent storm which swept through the eastern boroughs of New York City late Thursday. Tornado-force winds, heavy rain, and hail caused extensive damage to lines knocking out electricity for close to 37,000 customers with the Flushing, Rego Park, Maspeth and Jamaica areas of Queens being amongst the hardest hit.

Support crews from surrounding utilities have been brought in and additional Con Edison customer service representatives, electrical and construction crews, along with tree-clearing crews have been dispatched to expedite the restoration process. As of 7 a.m. today crews have successfully re-established power for more than 13,150 customers.

An estimate on restoration was not available as assessments and inspections are still being completed. Customers are able to access restoration information or report outages by phone or by utilizing an online tool at the company’s website.

Con Edison is maintaining close contact with the New York City Office of Emergency Management and the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services to coordinate storm response as necessary.
