Two Laby Compressors to Austria for Polyethylene Plant

Oil, Gas & Petrochem Equipment

Burckhardt Compression recently recorded an order from Borealis for a new petrochemical complex of Borealis Schwechat, Austria. The contract comprises two labyrinth piston compressors (Laby), serving a reactor train of a polyethylene plant.

These compressors deliver a hydrocarbon mix, using the Borstar process. This process is a technology which offers polyethylene and polypropylene materials that are stronger and more easily processed than conventional materials. For this specific process, high reliability operation is required and experience is needed to manufacture and supply the adequate material. The compressors are scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2004.

Laby compressors are used in the chemical and petrochemical industry. Labys compress bone-dry, dirty, abrasive and other gases with no contamination and without oil, with a discharge pressure to 4350 psi (300 bar), flow to 6500 scfm (11'000 Nm3/h), and shaft power to 2800 hp (2100 kW).
