Socotherm awarded Kizomba pipeline LOI

VICENZA, Italy -- Esso Exploration Angola has signed a $20-million Letter of Intent (LOI) with Socotherm Americas for the coating of the 142-km (88-mi) steel transportation pipeline of the Kizomba satellite project.

Socotherm's scope of work includes the application of a high-density polyethylene anticorrosive system, epoxy anticorrosive internal coatings, and a high thickness polypropylene thermal insulation system on the linepipe and the production risers of the oil platform.

The steel pipes will be coated by Socotherm Angola, a Socotherm Americas' subsidiary, in its Luanda's plant, beginning in 1Q 2009.

The steel pipes, of 10-in. and 16-in. (25-cm and 41-cm) diameter, will be coated and assembled one inside another in order to get insulated double-wall pipelines of 50 km (31 mi) launched into the sea. A further 42 km (26 mi) of 12-in. (30-cm) diameter steel pipes will also be submerged in deepwater, according to Socotherm. These pipes will also be insulated by a high thickness polypropylene thermal insulation system.
