OPITO to assist Indonesian government in setting standards

Offshore

Offshore staff

PORTLETHEN, UK -- OPITO will participate in a new Indonesian government oil and gas task force that will meet in Jalan, Indonesia, on June 12, 2007, to discuss setting new training and safety standards for the offshore sector.

OPITO's role lies in identifying current and future skills needs, and ensuring that education and training arrangements are in place to meet them, the company says.

David Doig, OPITO chief executive, will join a cross section of offshore operators, contractors, training providers, and trade unions to address Indonesia's needs. The two-day event follows an international seminar in January on Bali.

"It is hoped the event will help forge closer working relationships with regard to the development of training standards and job opportunities for seafarers and offshore workers in the region," Doig says.

"Introducing set standards ensures that offshore workers have the most comprehensive preparation and attain the highest levels of competence for working in the industry whilst the Indonesian industry, in turn, benefits from a robust quality assured training and competence environment," he says.
