NEW PETRO PRODUCTS: New pool fire system suppresses contained liquid natural gas fires

Oil, Gas & Petrochem Equipment

FOAMGLAS PFS pool fire suppressant system reduces thermal radiation and flame height in contained liquid natural gas (LNG) fires. Designed to be a low-cost, low-maintenance complement for any safety program, its cubes are prepackaged in easy-to-handle UV-resistant bags. They rest uniformly in a sump or other containment area. They're easily installed on site and don't require specialized skills or equipment to install or maintain.

The systems deliver immediate and automatic control without any deployment delay. Because PFS bags are highly buoyant -- they rise immediately to the surface of the LNG pool. This provides an insulating cap to reduce evaporation rate. In the event of ignition -- the cubes are released from the bags on the pool surface -- to quickly limit thermal radiation and flame height. In tests, an 8-in. depth of FOAMGLAS provided immediate and automatic control of fire at a level comparable with that provided by 1 to 23-m of high-expansion foam, notes the developer.

FOAMGLAS PFS is 100 percent inorganic. It is made entirely of glass without binders, fillers, or fibers. Damaged or waste materials can be disposed of as standard refuse and compacted for reduced waste volume.
