MMS updates evacuation statistics for hurricanes Gustav, Ike

NEW ORLEANS -- Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted to the Minerals Management Service (MMS), personnel have been evacuated from 167 production platforms, equivalent to 23.3 % of the 717 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Personnel from 44 rigs have also been evacuated; this is equivalent to 36.4 % of the 121 rigs currently operating in the Gulf.

From the operators' reports, it is estimated that approximately 77.5% of the oil production in the Gulf has been shut-in. It is also estimated that approximately 64.8% of the natural gas production in the Gulf has been shut-in.
