Energy management: Schneider Electric announced today that Madison Gas and Electric (MGE), a Madison, Wisconsin-based Utility that provides service to approximately 146,000 electric and 152,000 gas customers, will implement Schneider Electric’s ArcFM™ solution suite and the Esri ArcGIS platform to support an improved geospatial system.
The complimentary ArcGIS and ArcFM solution will replace an existing GIS system that has been in place for over two decades. The updated solution will provide geospatial capabilities across the MGE enterprise.
It has become more important than ever for employees throughout a utility enterprise to have an accurate and up-to-date understanding of the utility network, its component assets, where those assets are located, and how they are connected. The Schneider Electric / Esri solution provides MGE’s employees this benefit, ensuring enterprise-wide access to business critical information that enhances customer service, drives operational efficiencies, increases safety, and improves decision making.
“With the implementation of this new geospatial solution, we anticipate our entire operation will benefit from greater access to various MGE data,” said Greg Meyer, Director – Electric Engineering and Operations Support at MGE. “Across departments, our team will have greater ability to make smart decisions based off an accurate view of our networks.”
The ArcFM solution suite, based on the industry-leading Esri ArcGIS platform, consists of a family of configurable products and a set of sophisticated tools designed to provide a highly efficient geospatial asset tracking solution for utilities. MGE will utilize ArcFM, ArcFM Server, ArcFM Designer, ArcFM Viewer and ArcFM Mobile. The latter will provide the utility’s field crews with intuitive and efficient access to the GIS data in a mobile environment.
“We’ve seen more and more utilities take this step to implement a fully enterprise GIS,” said Jay Stinson, GM at Schneider Electric. “Utilities are experiencing increased pressure to operate smartly and efficiently, and being able to design, maintain and manage a network from the field to the control room is essential to provide the best service to customers.”
The Schneider Electric / Esri solution creates a single source of the truth and eliminates the need for redundant data entry and the associated and ongoing process of data translations for viewing GIS data viewing in other systems.
