Energy management: Lucid Energy receives NSF certification for LucidPipe in-conduit hydroelectric turbines

Energy management Lucid Energy NSF certification LucidPipe in-conduit hydroelectric turbines

Portland, OR— Energy management: Lucid Energy, a provider of renewable energy systems that enable industrial, municipal and agricultural facilities to produce clean, reliable, low-cost electricity from their gravity-fed water pipelines and effluent streams, has announced that the company’s flagship LucidPipe Power System in-conduit hydroelectric turbines are now NSF Certified. The LucidPipe 42-inch and 24-inch turbines were tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 and are now approved for installation in potable water systems. The turbines, which operate inside of large-diameter pipelines, spin as fast-moving water passes through them, producing a consistent, environmentally-friendly and non-weather-dependent source of renewable energy.

NSF International is an independent, not-for-profit organization that is widely recognized for its scientific and technical expertise in the health and environmental sciences. Receiving NSF Certification is a significant achievement, as drinking water standards in the United States are among the strictest in the world.

“NSF Certification is important for us because it enables us to assure our customers that the LucidPipe Power System is ready for widespread deployment in municipal drinking water systems,” said Gregg Semler, president and CEO of Lucid Energy. “NSF is recognized by leading water agencies throughout the world. We are extremely excited that we can now offer the systems on a global basis to water agencies seeking ways to reduce costs, lower carbon emissions and reduce reliance on grid-based power by using their existing water infrastructure to generate cost-effective renewable energy.”

Municipal water systems are already lined up to deploy the LucidPipe Power system. Last year Lucid Energy announced the first commercial installation of a LucidPipe Power System in Riverside, California and plans are underway to install systems in Portland, Oregon; San Antonio Water System in Texas and Haifa, Israel in early 2013.

On March 5 Lucid Energy announced that it has received funding from the Israeli hybrid venture capital/crowdsourcing platform OurCrowd. That funding will be used to help with the global commercialization of the LucidPipe Power System.

About Lucid Energy
Lucid Energy Inc. is a provider of renewable energy systems. Lucid Energy’s patented LucidPipe Power System enables industrial, municipal and agricultural facilities to generate clean, reliable, low-cost electricity from their gravity-fed water pipelines and effluent streams.

Lucid Energy was formed in 2007 with the mission of creating a new way for industries particularly those that use large amounts of water and electricity to turn the untapped energy of moving water into cost-saving, renewable energy. In 2008, Lucid formed a strategic relationship with Northwest Pipe Company (NASDAQ: NWPX), the largest manufacturer of steel water transmission pipe in the United States. The two companies collaborated on the development of the lift-based turbine design that is the foundation for the LucidPipe in-pipe hydropower system.
