Pelco Products factory tour to raise awareness of skilled career options

Edmond, Okla.—Pelco Products Inc. is hosting an open house at its manufacturing facility located at 320 West 18th Street, Edmond, OK 73013 to celebrate National Manufacturing Day on October 5, 2012.

Pelco Products Inc. is an Oklahoma based, family-owned business specializing in the design and manufacture of traffic signal hardware, utility products and decorative outdoor lighting.  With over 150 employees, it is the largest traffic signal hardware manufacturer in the nation.  The open house will allow visitors a behind the scenes look at the manufacturing process.

Pelco’s manufacturing open house will be held on National Manufacturing Day, Friday, October 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Those wishing to attend should call (405) 340-3434 to reserve a time.  Tours will last 30 to 45 minutes and will be conducted every 30 minutes.

Manufacturing Day has been designed by the National Association of Manufacturers to expand knowledge about and improve general public perception of manufacturing careers and manufacturing's value to the U.S. economy.  Manufacturing Day is for students, parents, educators, media, customers, suppliers and the community at large.  Visitors will learn about real career opportunities, training, and resources.

Studies by the nonprofit Manufacturing Institute and others show that almost 80 percent of Americans believe manufacturing is important to our economic prosperity, standard of living and national security.  Yet only 30 percent would encourage their children to go into manufacturing as a career.  This is a trend that must be reversed.

Always at the forefront of technology in its industry, Pelco is constantly providing new products to help customers solve their problems.  Pelco’s manufacturing technology is world class, utilizing the latest in machining techniques.  Employing its own integrated powder coating facility, as well as wet-painting, Pelco is able to provide customized product finishes.  The company also adopted the disciplines of Lean Manufacturing in which continuous improvements throughout the organization provides rapid customer response, shortened lead times, and improved product quality.  Pelco Products, Inc. has become the standard for products that are superior in design, quality and cost effectiveness.

Manufacturing Day is sponsored by the Fabricators & Manufactures Association, International (FMA), the U.S. Commerce Department’s Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and The Manufacturing Institute and supported by dozens of other national and regional manufacturing organizations.
