Demand Response Management System advances load control

St. Louis—Aclara, an intelligent infrastructure technologies provider for utilities and part of the Utility Solutions Group of ESCO Technologies Inc. (NYSE:ESE), has announced a contract with Nebraska's Twin Valleys Public Power District (TVPPD) to deploy Aclara’s TWACS and Demand Response Management System (DRMS) technologies. The integrated solution will provide a single, fully-integrated platform for demand response, advanced metering and data collection, and power system management.

"Aclara’s DRMS will help us to meet a number of critical goals, including expanding our load control capabilities, managing customer costs, and executing demand response requests from wholesale power suppliers far more rapidly,” said James Dietz, general manager, TVPPD. “In addition, Aclara will provide an advanced AMI network that will dramatically improve meter interface ability and customer engagement.”

This is the second public power district to commit to Aclara’s DRMS since the solution was launched earlier this year. Just three weeks ago, Cuming County Public Power District (CCPPD), also in Nebraska, announced plans to roll out the Aclara DRMS. The Aclara DRMS serves municipal, cooperative and investor-owned utilities.

TVPPD is replacing an outdated, legacy load control system with Aclara’s DRMS, unleashing a host of new AMI network-based capabilities. With a reliable, scalable and flexible AMI network in place, the District will support future smart grid applications, and better initiate, manage and terminate load control events through a unified dashboard.

“The Aclara DRMS is gaining traction in the industry,” said Brad Kitterman, president, Aclara. “It’s exciting that Aclara can make it easy for energy providers to comprehensively manage a broad portfolio of load reduction programs. The breadth, depth and quality of Aclara’s solutions have proven again to be second to none.”

The Aclara DRMS provides utilities with a one-stop shop for complete demand response management, allowing utilities to create, test, execute and fine-tune load management programs through a variety of approaches and device types. The solution unifies all relevant internal and external data, enabling operators to improve decision making and gain insight through advanced analytics and forecasting. DRMS is particularly effective for more than 330 utilities that have installed Aclara’s TWACS network, as it provides a simple and affordable means of establishing demand response, forecasting and analytics by utilizing TWACS technology.
