SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials say they're reached a deal with Rocky Mountain Power and the solar industry that they say allows the industry to continue to grow while getting solar customers to help pay their share of power production costs.

The deal announced Monday night would allow those with rooftop panels who get credits when they push extra power onto the grid to continue getting net metering credits through 2035.

Net metering would be closed to new customers after Nov. 15 of this year. Customers after that point could get credits for three years for power put back into the grid.

The Utah Public Service Commission will consider the deal at September meetings.

The agreement comes as Rocky Mountain Power was considering raising rates for those with panels, which solar industry officials said would be a blow to customers.
