Renewable Energy Products Review: Luci Solar Light

By Scott Thompson, PennEnergy

Today I’m going to review the Luci Outdoor solar light. The Luci light weighs in at 4.4 ounces, is 4.25 inches tall inflated, 0.98 inches collapsed and has a diameter of 5 inches. The Luci light is rated IP67 waterproof and it floats when inflated.  The light is simple to use with 2 buttons one is a charge indicator that gives you how much the light has been charged from the solar panel and the other is the power button. The power button has 3 modes: bright, super bright, 1 sec flashing. At its highest power output, the Luci light produces 50 lumens from the 10 LEDs.  On a full charge on the bright setting the light lasts about 12 hours. The light also has 2 carry straps, one on the top and one on the bottom of the light.

The light is a compact light that can be used in many applications. It is perfect for many outdoor activates including camping, backpacking, hunting, fishing, boating and many more activities. The light is also a great addition to any bugout bag or grid down situation.

This is a great product! I used the Luci light on my son’s first cub scout camp out over the weekend. Being an Eagle Scout myself I have used many different lights over the years and this one stands out. I let the light charge during the day by hanging it outside of our tent.  When the sun went down we used the light during the campfire ceremony to help with lighting for a skit and when it was time to head to the tent it illuminated the tent very well.  I left the light on all night to see how it would fair during the night. It still had power when I woke up the next morning. I’m looking forward to using this light on the boat for duck hunting. It’s perfect for the boat after I have set up the decoys and need to get ready in the boat.  Because it is waterproof and it floats I will not have to worry about it if I drop it in the lake.

I recommend this light for anyone looking for an energy efficient light to take with them outdoors or to have for emergencies. I found this great light at Academy Sports & Outdoors and it can also be purchsed online. This is a great gift idea with the holiday season right around the corner.
