PV Energy equips public schools in Antigua and Barbuda with solar power

Modern sun2roof solar power energy solutions ensure undisturbed education without power cuts.

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda (GOAB) fosters the development of renewable energies to gain independence from polluting diesel generators and disturbing power cuts. Therefore, GOAB has concluded a contract with the UK-based clean energy provider PV Energy Limited to conduct a clean power project comprising a total of 10 MWp of solar power.

Alongside large-scale installations with a size of 8 MWp in total, the GOAB pursues its clean energy approach also through the realisation of numerous smaller projects. Equipping more than 50 schools and other public buildings with reliable energy solutions, namely PV Energy’s sun2roof photovoltaic roof installations, as part of Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to sustainability is in full progress. Until today, 12 schools have been supplied with eco-friendly solar power solutions. The students of the Bendals Primary School, for example, benefit from a sun2roof system delivering 130,7 kWh of green renewable energy per day and saving yearly 25.260 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions since June 2016.

The latest project completed is the photovoltaic installation on the roof of the Hospitality Training Institute generating as off now 257 kWh of reliable solar energy per day and therefore saving 49.692 kilograms of CO2 emissions in the same period. Currently, the PV Energy team is installing the substructure of the solar panels on the roof of the Antigua Girls High School. Upon completion, the solar solution will generate 355,6 kWh of clean energy every day and save 68.740 kilograms of CO2 yearly.

Every week, PV Energy provides one more school with sun2roof installations supporting the process of reducing the twin-island’s dependency on fossil fuels. Moreover, numerous buildings of the social housing program benefit to date from the sustainable and environmentally friendly solar solutions of PV Energy. A local team of eleven experts works hard to realise the agreed 10 MWp clean energy project cluster in order to decrease the pollution caused by diesel and to confirm the pioneering role of the Caribbean island in the reduction of the carbon footprint.
