ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A state college in New York's Westchester County has finished work on an energy efficiency project expected to save money on utility bills while reducing the school's carbon emissions.

The work at SUNY Purchase College included the construction of four new cooling towers and an underground water condenser system.

State officials announced the completion of the $9.2 million project on Monday.

SUNY Purchase is expected to save $400,000 per year thanks to lower energy bills. The project will also reduce carbon emissions by some 360 tons, the equivalent of 76 cars.

The work is part of a broader effort to improve energy efficiency at state buildings by 20 percent by the year 2020.
