BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Developers seeking to revitalize the former Moran Coal plant in Burlington have until November to prove that they can still make it happen.
Mayor Miro Weinberger said Thursday that the city's memorandum of understanding with New Moran Inc. was dissolved by mutual consent. He says that if a viable plan isn't submitted by Nov. 11, the building will be demolished.
Weinberger says this allows the city to explore similar plans from other groups, which could still include revised ones from the company. New Moran had planned to convert the power plant into a multi-use event and maker space.
The Burlington Free Press reports that Weinberger says the group failed to demonstrate the expertise or the funding.
New Moran tells WCAX-TV it's refining its plan with a lower price tag.
