The University of Alberta’s Reservoir Geomechanics Research Group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has partnered with Ikon Science and RokDoc software to deploy the leading rock property prediction software department wide.
The RokDoc platform donation is worth $10m and will deliver full access to the latest integrated technology platform for student research and development in the rock physics, seismic inversion and modeling and reservoir characterization of geomechanical rock properties.
"I’m very grateful to Ikon for providing us access to a world class suite of software for our reservoir geomechanics research projects, which range from thermal recovery in oil sands, caprock integrity, CO2 storage to unconventional shale gas development. The computational horsepower embedded in Ikon software will provide our students and researchers with unparalleled geoscience capability and training.” Said Dr. Rick Chalaturnyk, Professor, Geotechnical Engineering.
“This is a great opportunity to partner with a leading university and provide our cutting edge technology that will assist in developing the next generation of geo engineers developing technologies for subsurface characterization of rock properties” Said Rob Dudley, Manager of Ikon’s Canadian business.
RokDoc, developed by Ikon Science, is the industry standard integrated software technology platform for the prediction of rock properties and reservoir behavior. RokDoc is widely adopted by the world’s leading academic institutions and universities. RokDoc is available to non-commercial academic organizations under the Ikon Science academic software donation program. Ikon has long supported academia through this program and also funding of PhD programs, research & development and consortia sponsorship.
Ikon Science is a global GeoPrediction technology company providing industry leadership in the prediction of reservoir properties, pressures and fluids. The RokDoc® software platform, integrates Quantitative Interpretation, GeoMechanics and GeoPressure. Ikon Science’s RokDoc software platform and related services are used in over 200 leading oil, gas, energy and service companies throughout the world. Ikon Science, founded in 2001, has over 150 staff. The company is privately owned and investors include Fleming Family & Partners and Tullow Oil plc.
The University of Alberta is a public research university located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was founded in 1908 by Alexander Cameron Rutherford, the first premier of Alberta, and Henry Marshall Tory, its first president.
