NorthStar Midstream (“NorthStar”) announced that it has completed the acquisition of a 21-mile natural gas transmission pipeline originating in Point Comfort, TX and terminating near Edna, TX from Southcross Energy Partners, L.P.
NorthStar intends to repurpose the 12-inch pipeline to transport up to 100,000 barrels per day of crude oil or natural gas liquids from the Eagle Ford Shale to its Seahawk marine terminal (the “Seahawk Terminal”) located at the Port of Calhoun in Point Comfort, TX. The Seahawk Terminal can service vessels with up to 320,000 barrels of capacity and has plans to add up to 700,000 barrels of tank storage capacity.
The addition of this pipeline will complement our 6 high speed LACTs and 4 marine loading areas to provide a unique value proposition for Eagle Ford shippers by offering efficient and timely pipeline and marine transportation services and expansive end market and customer optionality. The Seahawk Terminal capitalizes on Point Comfort’s (i) 38-foot draft to accommodate up to medium range vessels, (ii) its close proximity to the Houston and Louisiana end markets, and (iii) minimal demurrage charges and delays relative to other ports serving larger vessels.
“We are excited about the opportunities that the pipeline generates for our customers as we create an integrated market hub at the Seahawk Terminal,” stated Tim Casey, CEO of NorthStar Midstream. “We believe that a new market will develop at the Seahawk Terminal as customers capture the benefits of volumes shipped via pipeline and the other storage and transloading services that we offer.”
