The protesters were arrested at the Spectra Energy Gas Transmission Facility in Burrillville Saturday. About 100 people protested against the expansion of a gas pipeline project.
The arrested protesters — who were later released — have been identified as members of the groups Fighting Against Natural Gas and Burrillville Against Spectra Expansion. A group official tells the Providence Journal that the trespassers were hoping to symbolically plant bulbs on the property.
The groups say they want to end the expansion of Spectra Energy's compressor station and stop a new proposal to build a power plant.
More than half a dozen demonstrators have been arrested at the site since last year.
