This work will help improve power reliability for thousands of residential and industrial customers in parts of Fulton, Henry, Lucas and Wood counties.

FirstEnergy Corp. (FE) has recently completed about $7.5 million in upgrades at a substation in Liberty Center in the Toledo Edison service area to help enhance service reliability and prepare the system for potential future load growth.

The work includes replacing two large transformers and capacitor banks that help maintain proper voltage levels, adding several new circuit breakers and upgrading electrical controls to help protect vital substation equipment. This work will help improve system reliability for thousands of residential and industrial customers in parts of Fulton, Henry, Lucas and Wood counties.

"This work is important to helping us maintain safe and reliable service for our customers, although these substation projects aren't always visible to the public," said Rich Sweeney, regional president of Toledo Edison. "Day-to-day, these are the types of projects we invest in to help ensure Toledo Edison remains one of the most reliable utilities in Ohio."

According to the Public Utility Commission of Ohio, Toledo Edison has enjoyed above-average ratings on the number and duration of customer service disruptions for the last several years, and infrastructure upgrades over the years, including this substation project, are important to maintain this reliability rating.

The work is funded and owned by American Transmission Systems, Incorporated, a FirstEnergy transmission company.

Toledo Edison serves more than 300,000 customers in northwest Ohio. Follow Toledo Edison on Twitter @ToledoEdison.
