Officials in Vermont city to tout solar power progress

RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — The city of Rutland says it has achieved its long-sought goal of becoming the solar capital of New England.

Officials with Green Mountain Power, the city of Rutland, state and federal officials and others will be in Rutland Tuesday to mark the achievement. Officials have pursued for years the goal of having the city produce more electricity, per capita, than any other city in the region.

Rutland is home to a number of large solar arrays and the utility has encouraged many residents to use a variety of energy saving technologies as well as solar panels to generate electricity.
