Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Sarah Rich as a Resident Inspector at the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan, N.Y. She joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Scott Stewart and Resident Inspector Garrett Newman at the two-unit site, operated by Entergy Nuclear.
“Sarah Rich’s experience, training and commitment to safety will help the NRC in its mission of protecting people and the environment by helping ensure that Indian Point meets the high standards set by the agency,” NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said.
Rich joined the NRC in August 2008 and most recently was the Resident Inspector at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nuclear science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in radiological sciences and protection from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She also graduated from the agency’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program, and completed the NRC’s inspector qualification program.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
