Tours planned of Consumers Energy's Cross Winds wind power farm

CARO, Mich. (AP) — Public tours are being planned of Consumers Energy's $255 million Cross Winds Energy Park in Tuscola County.

The unit of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. says that the tours offered by the Caro Chamber of Commerce start on Saturday. The program includes background on how Cross Winds was built and a guided tour of the wind park, which started operating in December.

Cross Winds includes 62 wind turbines and is located in Akron and Columbia townships, about 90 miles northwest of Detroit. The turbines will have enough capacity to supply electricity to about 31,000 homes.
