SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert says Utah will join three other states in a lawsuit challenging new rules for oil and gas drilling on federal land.
Herbert, a Republican, said Monday afternoon that Utah will join Wyoming, North Dakota and Colorado in the lawsuit because the rules unlawfully interfere with state regulations that address the process.
Federal court records show that as of Monday afternoon, Utah had not joined the lawsuit.
Utah attorney general's office spokeswoman Missy Larsen said in a text message Monday that Utah would ask a federal judge for permission to join the lawsuit in about a week.
