South Jersey Gas reapplies for gas pipeline across 2 counties

UPPER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — South Jersey Gas has reapplied for permission to build a 22-mile natural gas pipeline in Cumberland and Cape May counties.

The company is supporting its application with what it says is new information after the Pinelands Commission blocked the pipeline in early 2014.

South Jersey Gas says the pipeline would reduce pollution in part of the million-acre preserve by transforming the BL England plant from coal and oil to natural gas.

But the New Jersey Sierra Club says the project has already been decided and would still threaten wildlife in the region.
