Leidos invests in utility technology at University of Central Florida

Leidos makes $400,000 donation to University of Central Florida to support research activities in utility technology.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) recently received a $40,000 donation from Leidos, a national security, health and engineering solutions company, to support research activities in utility technology.

The funds support research efforts among faculty and students within the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) to help develop new solutions for the nation’s energy challenges. CECS provides educational initiatives, training programs and innovative research in the areas of engineering and computer science.

“This gift from Leidos will support various research projects and technology activities at UCF and help develop our next generation utility workforce. We are appreciative of the support,” said Dr. Michael Georgiopoulos, CECS dean.

Leidos works with its utility industry clients to deliver solutions that span from transmission to end use and include big data analytics, physical and cybersecurity, smart grid, distributed energy resources, power delivery and energy efficiency and management.

“We continue to be impressed by the university’s strong academic commitment and their deep portfolio of scientific and engineering research,” said Paul Grimes, Leidos Engineering Chief Technology Officer and University Liaison. “These programs complement the thought leadership and advanced technical solutions that Leidos delivers to our clients every day, so we’re excited to support the university’s CECS with this donation.”

Grimes also serves on the board of advisers for the Florida High Tech Corridor Council, which is an economic development initiative that connects research institutions, companies and industry groups.
