The pipeline runs through St. Joseph and Branch counties and completes a 90-mile pipeline corridor, which the utility says will increase reliability and safety for its 1.7 million natural gas customers. Commercial operation of the 1200B Pipeline began Sept. 18.
An event to celebrate the project was planned for Wednesday in Coldwater.
The project gives the unit of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. the ability to transport larger volumes of natural gas. It now has parallel pipelines along the corridor, so one can be shut down if needed while service continues. The project had about 300 workers.
