GNF ENUSA Nuclear Fuel S.A. (GENUSA) has been selected by RWE and E.ON to provide fuel reloads for Unit C of the Gundremmingen nuclear power station in Gundremmingen, Germany. The three reloads and options for two more included in the agreement will potentially provide fuel to the plant during its remaining lifetime.
GENUSA previously provided fuel to Gundremmingen Unit C, having delivered about 1,100 fuel bundles since 1998 with excellent performance. GENUSA was selected for these reloads because of its industry-leading reliability, experience and quality.
“RWE’s and E.ON’s choice of GENUSA demonstrates confidence in the reliability, quality and cost effectiveness of our GNF2 fuel assembly and our outstanding engineering support across the board and particularly in our water chemistry analysis and support,” said Kevin Walsh, CEO of GNF and Senior Vice President, Nuclear Services and Fuels for GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. “Having led the industry for many years in fuel reliability, we are confident in our ability to help RWE and E.ON maximize power generation during these important years of the plant’s life.”
"We deeply value RWE/E.ON's decision to once again rely on GENUSA for the supply of nuclear fuel for Gundremmingen. We expect to return this confidence thanks to the proven and reliable GNF2 design and the expertise of our engineering team and manufacturing capabilities" said Jose Luis Gonzalez, Chairman and CEO of ENUSA.
The GNF2 high performance fuel assembly is designed to deliver increased energy output while decreasing overall fuel cycle costs. GNF2's advanced design saves utilities money by reducing the total amount of uranium and the average enrichment in fuel reloads.
