Oil and gas: Saipem and University of Rijeka sign cooperation agreement

Saipem and the University of Rijeka signed a cooperation agreement for the development of scientific research and university education initiatives. Saipem, through the Saipem Croatia Branch, and the University of Rijeka today signed a cooperation agreement for the development of scientific research and university education initiatives in the field of energy technology.

The agreement was signed by the Director of the Saipem Croatia Branch, Bruno Marino, and by the Dean of the University of Rijeka, Pero Lučin, in the presence of the Consul General of the Italian Republic in Fiume, Renato Cianfarani.

The agreement will facilitate scientific research projects in the field of energy technology, in addition to classes and seminars on mechanical engineering and naval architecture.

The cooperation between Saipem Croatia and the University of Rijeka will make it possible to pass on the know-how and experience of Saipem, one of the leading general contractors in the world in the execution of large-scale projects, especially in the Oil & Gas sector, to students through their Off-Shore Transport and Installation Engineering Center. This initiative will lead to the hiring of new graduates in the Branch, especially from the University’s Faculty of Engineering.

Saipem has been present in Croatia since 2002 through Saipem Mediterranean Services COO which, in 2012, became Saipem Croatia Branch. As long ago as 2012, Saipem began close cooperation with the University of Rijeka’s Faculty of Engineering which has led to the hiring of a number of mechanical engineers and naval architects over the years - to date, there are 61 mechanical engineers and naval architects who graduated at the university now working in the Branch -, the participation of 41 students in internship schemes organized by the company, the activation of research projects and software development, two Masters’, one Doctorate, training and practical exercises for the students.
