Degremont, a subsidiary of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, was awarded the bid for two four-year contracts by Tractebel Energia, a subsidiary of GDF SUEZ, to operate the water cycle facilities of the Jorge Lacerda thermoelectric complex and the Lages bioenergy plant in Santa Catarina State, Brazil. The contracts are valued at €4 million during a 4-year period.
Process water is key to the power generation process and is used in steam turbine or cooling towers. Degremont’s extensive expertise in water management for the power industry will ensure the optimisation and facility's reliability to achieve the steam and electricity production objectives of Tractebel Energia.
The water facilities include four power boilers, cooling tower systems, air conditioning systems, two water treatment plants and two demineralization plants.
With an installed capacity of 857 MW, the Jorge Lacerda thermoelectric complex is the largest coal burning thermoelectric complex of Latin America. The Lages bioenergy plant is fuelled with biomass and reaches an installed capacity of 28 MW and 25t/h of steam generation.
Recognized water-related expertise in the power industry
Degremont has extensive water-related expertise in the power industry, as demonstrated by its projects around the world. In 2013, Degremont was awarded in Argentina the engineering and procurement contract with Duro Felguera, for a demineralization installation to equip a power plant in Vuelta de Obligado. It is a well-established player in North America for the supply of demineralisation and condensate polishing systems as well as for the treatment of effluents from the Flue Gas Desulfurization where Degremont has many references allowing its customers to cope with more and more stringent regulations.
Amongst its Power industry dedicated portfolio of services, Degremont has also a fleet of mobile treatment units with global reach that are able to help the Power companies to handle temporary needs. In France, reverse osmosis mobile solutions were provided to nuclear power plants to ensure the demineralised water supply and electricity production continuity.
