Alstom was awarded a contract by China’s Sinohydro Corporation Limited to provide electromechanical equipment and technical services to its Soubre Hydropower Project in Ivory Coast in Africa.
Alstom will provide three 90 MW Francis turbine-generator sets, one 5 MW Bulb turbine-generator set and related equipment to this project. Scope of the contract covers the equipment’s design, manufacturing, supervision to the installation, commissioning, testing as well as site services. The equipment will be manufactured at Alstom’s hydro industrial site in China’s Tianjin city.
Located on the Naoua falls over Sassandra River, the Soubre Project is the largest hydropower project in Cote d'lvoire at present with a capacity of 270 MW. The power plant will have an average annual output of 1100 GWh. Construction of Soubre plant will be a good opportunity to drive local economy and bring job opportunities. This is the second cooperation between Alstom Hydro China and Sinohydro after Bui project in Ghana (3 x 133 MW turbine generator units).
“This contract further reinforces Alstom's leading position in Africa’s hydropower market. Thanks to its cutting edge technology and long standing expertise in hydro power, Alstom has been playing a major role in Africa’s power development plan, through key recent projects such as Bujagali's 250 MW hydropower plant in Uganda, or Grand Renaissance's 3000 MW project in Ethiopia” said Jérôme Pécresse, President of Alstom Renewable Power.
