API applauds Keystone XL route approval from Nebraska governor

American Petroleum Institute Executive Vice President Marty Durbin welcomed Governor Dave Heineman’s approval of the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s assessment of the Keystone XL pipeline reroute in Nebraska.

“Another major hurdle has been cleared,” said Durbin. “With the approval from Nebraska in hand, the president can be confident that the remaining environmental concerns have been addressed. Together with the thousands of building trades jobs that will be created almost immediately, Keystone XL is most definitely in our nation’s interest. The project would boost economic income nationwide, particularly in Nebraska: generating more than $465 million in new spending, increasing personal income by $314 million, and adding more than $11 million in to state and local tax revenues.”

According to the Department of State, it conducted a concurrent environmental review of the remainder of the route, while coordinating with the NDEQ, and will be considering the Nebraska assessment in the final national interest determination for Keystone XL.

“The jobs, economic benefits and energy security that come with building Keystone XL remain the driving forces behind the strong support for this project in Nebraska and across the nation,” Durbin said. “We hope President Obama will finally green light KXL as soon as possible, and get more Americans back to work.”
