Following is a statement by Marty Durbin, President and Chief Executive Officer of America's Natural Gas Alliance, on the President's trip to Pennsylvania and New York to promote opportun ities for the middle class.
"It's appropriate that the President has chosen to tour the Marcellus Shale region to discuss job and education opportunities for the middle class. Our nation's abundant natural gas resource supports nearly three million jobs, and the Marcellus region is a powerful, real-world example of the enormous positive impact affordable and abundant natural gas is having on our nation's economy - through job creation, clean power generation and robust U.S. manufacturing."
"In addressing students at Lackawanna College in Northeastern Pennsylvania tomorrow, the President has chosen as his backdrop a true Marcellus success story, and one that represents how local colleges are responding to job market opportunities in their own communities. Programs such as the one offered to prospective natural gas workers at Lackawanna and in training facilities of the Building and Construction Trades are being duplicated across the Marcellus region to ensure that local production means well-paying careers for local residents."
"It is our hope that President Obama's visit to neighboring New York will remind Governor Cuomo of the widespread support for natural gas development across the political spectrum. New York has a substantial natural gas resource within the Marcellus Shale formation and, as the fifth largest user of this cleaner American fuel, would benefit greatly from responsible development."
