Source:Vitol

Vitol Group has acquired the entire issued share capital of Phillips 66 Power Operations Ltd. which owns Immingham combined heat and power (CHP) plant, located in North Lincolnshire, U.K., from Phillips 66.

Immingham CHP will be renamed VPI Immingham.

VPI Immingham is one of the largest CHP plants in Europe, capable of generating 1,240MW. The facility provides steam and electricity to Phillips 66’s Humber Refinery, steam to the neighboring Lindsey refinery, and merchant power into the U.K. market.

Completed in 2004 and expanded in 2009, at full capacity, VPI Immingham saves 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent emissions of 1 million cars, compared with a conventional plant.  The plant is fuelled by natural gas and surplus refinery gas, with liquid fuel as a backup.
